Office Glass Partitions in Dubai: Types, Privacy Options and Cost Factors
Office glass partitions come in four main types: fixed slimline panels, slim aluminium partitions with doors, sliding glass doors, and switchable smart glass. Fixed glass gives light, framed doors give access, sliding doors save swing space, and switchable glass gives privacy on demand. SEG surveys the office for free, then quotes in writing.
Glass partitions let daylight reach the middle of a floor plate while still giving people rooms they can close. SEG designs, supplies and installs them across Dubai and the UAE — slim aluminium framing, switchable privacy glass, and the coordination that keeps a fit-out on programme.
Three ways to give a meeting room privacy
Most office partition briefs come down to the same trade-off: the client wants the light and the openness of glass, and also wants the room to be private when it is in use. There are three honest answers, and they cost and behave very differently.
| Approach | Privacy | Best when | Worth knowing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clear glass and blinds | Manual, all-or-nothing | Budget-led fit-outs | Blinds collect dust, break, and date the room faster than the glass does |
| Switchable smart glass | Instant, at the touch of a switch | Boardrooms, HR and director offices, medical consulting rooms | Needs a power feed to each panel; defaults to private if power fails |
| Fluted or textured glass | Permanent, diffused | Corridors, focus rooms, anywhere privacy is always wanted | No electrics, no moving parts, nothing to maintain |
Smart glass can also be retrofitted as a film onto suitable glass that is already installed — useful when a tenant wants privacy in a space they did not build. For meeting rooms, our guide to smart glass for offices and meeting rooms compares film on existing glass with new smart glass panels.
The systems we use in offices
Partition framing is not one product. Which system suits a room depends on how the opening has to work day to day — and on what is above the ceiling.
Fixed slimline panels
The everyday partition run. Stationary glass in slim aluminium profiles, defining rooms without closing the floor plate in.
See the system Hidden trackGhost sliding doors
Sliding doors with concealed hardware, for when the detail should read as glass and nothing else.
See the system Space saverPocket sliding doors
The leaf retracts into a wall pocket, so no floor area is lost to a swinging or stacked door.
See the system Synchronised3+3 linkage doors
Multi-panel sliding for wide openings — training rooms and boardrooms that open into the floor.
See the system HingedSlim casement doors
A conventional swing door in a slim frame, where a slider would complicate the furniture layout.
See the system FoldingBi-fold slim doors
Panels fold into a stack, for rooms that need to open fully but have no pocket to hide a leaf in.

| Feature | Fixed slimline panel | Slim aluminium partition with a swing door | Sliding glass door | Switchable partition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Privacy | Set by the glass: clear, textured or switchable | Set by the glass | Set by the glass | On demand, at a switch. Frosted when power is off. |

| Suits | Long partition runs, meeting areas, home offices | Private offices with room for a door to swing | Meeting rooms and wide openings where a swing door would clash with furniture | Boardrooms, HR and director offices, consulting rooms |
Five things to settle before the partitions are ordered
These are the questions that, left open, turn into site problems later. Worth answering at design stage rather than during installation.
-
Where the power goes, if any glass is switchable
Every smart glass panel needs a feed to its transformer. That route has to be agreed with the electrical contractor before ceilings and wall finishes close, because reaching it afterwards means opening them again.
-
What the partition is fixed to
Glass is heavy and unforgiving. Head and floor fixings need a structural substrate, not a plasterboard bulkhead, and that is coordinated with the main contractor.
-
How the ceiling and floor lines actually run
A partition is only as straight as the slab. Level and plumb are surveyed before manufacture, since glass cannot be trimmed on site the way a stud wall can.
-
The clear opening, not the structural one
A sliding door's usable passage is narrower than the hole it sits in. Agreeing the clear opening early avoids a door that meets the drawing but not the brief.
-
The finish, on a physical sample
We match RAL colours, anodised and textured coatings. Sign those off on a sample in the actual light of the space, not from a screen.

Fitting out a UAE office
Fitting glass into a UAE office usually involves more than the glass. Before the survey, ask your landlord or building management what they need from you. Typical points are approval of the layout, the hours when noisy work is allowed, and lift or loading access for long panels. Rules differ between buildings. The client arranges passes and approvals with building management, and at the survey we tell you what access we need. This is not legal advice.
Tell us early if the office is on a sunny elevation. Direct sun changes the glass and film choices we discuss, and it is easier to plan before the layout is fixed.
One team handles the job from survey to installation. SEG uses its own installation team and no outside contractors, so the people who measure your office work for the same company as the people who fit the glass.
Timing: the timeline depends on project scope and is confirmed after the free site survey. Larger or phased fit-outs are programmed around the main contractor's sequence, so give us the programme if you have one. Shop drawings are provided after we receive your LPO (purchase order). Installation is normally carried out during working hours, and any exception is discussed at the survey.

Frequently asked questions
What types of office glass partition are there?
Four main types: fixed slimline panels, slim aluminium partitions with swing doors, sliding glass doors (ghost, pocket or linked panels), and switchable smart glass or film for privacy on demand. Many offices combine them, with fixed glass for the runs and a door where access is needed.
What are the disadvantages of a glass partition wall?
Glass gives less privacy and less sound separation than a solid wall unless the design adds them. Sun-facing glass can bring glare. Smart glass needs power and a controller. Glass cannot be trimmed on site, so measurements must be right before it is made.
Do I need landlord or building approval before fitting a partition?
Often you do. Ask your landlord or building management first, because rules differ between buildings and cover layout, working hours and access. The client arranges passes and approvals with building management, and at the survey we tell you what access we need. Fire and acoustic needs are separate specifications set by your consultant. This is not legal advice.
How long does installation take?
Timeline depends on project scope; we confirm it after the free site survey. Larger or phased fit-outs are programmed around the main contractor's sequence. The free site survey happens within 24 hours of your enquiry, and the timeline for your job is confirmed in the written quote. Shop drawings are provided after we receive your LPO (purchase order).
Can an office partition have switchable privacy?
Yes. Switchable smart glass changes between frosted and clear at a switch. Smart glass can be connected to automation systems. Suitable existing glass can often take smart film instead, and new partitions can use laminated smart glass. Our guide to smart glass for offices and meeting rooms explains the choice.
How do I compare two partition quotes?
Check that both list the same things: glass type and thickness, panel sizes, door hardware, power and controller for any smart glass, installation, making good, programme and warranty terms. A quote that leaves one out is not like for like.
What affects the price of an office glass partition?
Glass type, size, hardware and installation. Within that: framing and finish, the doors and their hardware, wiring for switchable glass, the fixings at floor and ceiling, and programme and access. We quote in writing after a free site survey.
Are the installation teams in-house?
Yes. Installation is carried out by our own installation team, with no outside contractors.
What finishes are available on the aluminium?
Custom RAL colour matching, anodised finishes and textured powder coatings, matched to the interior scheme.
Which areas do you cover?
All seven emirates: Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, for both commercial and residential projects.
