Ghost Sliding Doors in Dubai: How the Hidden Track Works and What Affects the Cost

Sliding glass doors with concealed hardware for a clean interior finish. Plan the support, travel path and access before closing ceilings or wall finishes.

A ghost sliding door is a glass door on a concealed or visually reduced track, so the panel looks as if it floats. The track and its support are still there, built into the ceiling or wall detail. It suits interior openings with clear wall beside them. SEG checks the support and travel path at a free site survey.

Ghost sliding doors use concealed or visually reduced sliding hardware to keep the focus on the glass and the opening. The aim is a floating appearance with less visible mechanism around the door. The track and support still exist; they are integrated into the architectural detail.

For a villa study, meeting room or hospitality interior in Dubai, this approach can keep a doorway visually quiet while avoiding a swing arc. SEG supplies and installs slimline glass systems across the UAE, with the concealment detail and maintenance access agreed before the surrounding finishes are completed.

What it gives you

  • Reduced visibility of the sliding mechanism
  • A sliding opening that avoids a hinged-door swing arc
  • Glass and slim profiles coordinated with the interior palette
  • Support and ceiling interfaces reviewed before installation
  • Hardware access considered for future adjustment

How it works

The door travels along a supported track while guides keep the panel aligned. Depending on the selected hardware, part of the mechanism can be recessed or concealed behind a purpose-designed finish. The supporting structure must carry the door load; decorative plasterboard alone should not be assumed to provide that support.

The layout needs enough clear space for the panel to travel. Handles, skirting, furniture and adjoining walls can all limit the opening if they are overlooked. A concealed track also needs a planned route for adjustment or replacement, so the clean appearance does not make routine servicing unnecessarily difficult.

Send an elevation of the doorway, the finished ceiling level and the available wall space beside it. We can then review glass weight, track position, guides and options such as soft closing where supported. Treat external, acoustic or fire requirements as separate specifications rather than benefits implied by the word ghost.

Ghost doors in UAE homes

Most ghost doors in homes sit between rooms: living room to dining area, majlis to hallway, study to landing. In an apartment, one wide ghost door can replace a hinged door that used to swing into the furniture. Between a living room and a terrace, the opening is still an interior-style detail. If the door closes off the outdoors, tell us at the start. We check the opening's exposure at the free site survey.

In a villa, the first question is what sits above the ceiling. A ghost track needs solid support, so we check whether the slab or a structural beam can carry the door before any finishes close. Plasterboard on its own should not be assumed to hold a glass panel.

Next is clear wall length. When the door is open, the panel parks beside the opening, and that stretch of wall has to stay free of sockets, wall lights and furniture. Measure it before you pick the door. We confirm the exact length for your door at the site survey, and the datasheet is available on request.

Fine dust settles in any track. A concealed track needs a planned way in for cleaning and adjustment, so ask for that access to be shown on the installation drawing.

Care and cleaning. Vacuum or brush loose dust and grit out of the track first. Then wipe it with a soft cloth, slightly damp with a mild, non-abrasive cleaner, and dry it. Avoid abrasive pads and harsh or solvent-based cleaners, and do not flood the track with water. General guidance; confirm with SEG at handover.

SEG describes its ghost systems as designed for UAE heat and humidity. That describes how the system is specified for interior use, not a weather or performance figure.

Ghost vs standard slim sliding vs pocket: how do they compare?

For a full guide, read ghost door vs pocket door.

Ghost sliding door Standard slim sliding door Pocket sliding system
Wall work No cavity. The ceiling or wall must carry the track and the door weight. None beyond fixings. See the single sliding door. A purpose-designed cavity with enough length and width. See the pocket sliding system.
Space when open Clear wall length beside the opening for the parked panel. Clear side space for the parked panel. The leaf sits inside the wall.
Look Concealed or reduced hardware, so the glass stays the focus. Slim frame. We confirm how the track looks for your opening at the site survey. The leaf disappears when open.
Renovation Sometimes possible. Depends on ceiling or wall construction and support. Depends on the side space available. Track support and floor guide are checked. Needs the most planning. The wall is assessed first and some projects need a new lining or partition.
What drives the quote Glass, track and hardware, concealment work, support. Glass, frame, track. Glass, cavity construction, hardware.

Ghost Sliding Doors FAQs

Practical answers to help you plan your project.

What is a ghost sliding door?

It is a sliding glass door whose track and hardware are hidden or kept visually small, so the glass is what you notice. The track and its support are still there. Both sit in the ceiling or wall detail instead of being left on show.

How does a ghost sliding door work?

The glass panel travels along a supported track while guides keep it aligned. Part of the mechanism can be recessed or covered by a purpose-designed finish. The structure has to carry the door weight, and the panel needs clear wall space to slide into.

What is the difference between a ghost door and a normal sliding door?

The hardware. A normal sliding door shows its track and frame as part of the look. A ghost door hides or reduces them. Both slide beside the opening and both need clear space for the parked panel. The ghost version asks for more planning around the ceiling and wall detail.

Does a ghost door need a hole in the wall?

No. A ghost door does not need a cavity, because the panel parks beside the opening. That is what a pocket door does differently. A ghost door does need a ceiling or wall that can support the track, and clear wall length for the panel to travel.

How is a ghost door installed, and how long does it take?

We survey the opening for free, agree the track and concealment detail on a drawing, then order the glass to size. Our own installation team fits it. The installation timeline depends on project scope and is confirmed after the free site survey. Concealment work can change that.

Can a ghost door be fitted in an existing villa or apartment?

Sometimes. It depends on the ceiling or wall construction, the support available and the space for the panel. Fitting a concealed track may mean opening and repairing finishes around it. Send a photo and the ceiling level and we will say whether it is practical.

What affects the price of a ghost sliding door?

Glass size and weight, hardware, concealment work, structural support, finishes and site access. We quote in writing after a free site survey, and the quote lists the glass, track and hardware, installation and any building work around the opening.

Does a ghost sliding door need a floor guide?

Many sliding systems need a guide to control lateral movement. Its type and visibility depend on the hardware. The final detail should be confirmed on the installation drawing.

Do ghost doors block sound?

A concealed mechanism does not by itself establish sound isolation. Gaps, seals and the complete door assembly decide how much sound passes. Explain your privacy needs before choosing the system.
